You’ll never have to worry about lost cables with the Apple USB SuperDrive. It connects to your MacBook Pro with Retina display, MacBook Air, iMac or Mac mini with a single USB Type-A cable that’s built into the SuperDrive. There’s no separate power adapter, and it works whether your Mac.
The USB port on that device is an input port... not an output. According to the user guide (http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201202/20120201170941238/02218A_E36 0_ZA-0601.pdf), the USB port is for connecting:
- USB devices that support USB Mass Storage v1.0. USB devices that operate as a removable disk in Windows (2000 or later) without additional driver installation.
- MP3 Player: Flash type MP3 player.
- Digital camera: Cameras that support USB Mass Storage v1.0.
- Cameras that operate as a removable disk in Windows (2000 or later) without additional driver installation.
- USB Flash Drive: Devices that support USB 2.0 or USB 1.1.
- USB card Reader:
There is no way to use that DVD player to watch DVDs on your MacBook Pro. That DVD player needs to be connected to a TV or monitor with a component video or standard video input.
